The Great Depression had many causes. However, till this day scholars and economist debate over which had the major affects.
It is believed that the causes of the Great Depression were a combination of issues. It is believed that normal business processes and cycles became imbalanced. There is evidence that shows that free markets failed due to poor regulations and the subsequent panic of consumers to get their money before they lost everything, thus catapulting share and stock prices down faster than they had ever done before. The other causes are blamed on the governments of the day who failed to stop bank failures and the sudden reduction in money.
