Once you’ve been playing tennis for a while, you’ll probably decide it’s time to invest in some decent gear. Usually people arrive at this decision when they realize their game is suffering because they are using the wrong gear for their skills or playing style. When it comes to tennis shirts and other clothing items, people usually decide to invest in apparel that will be more comfortable as it enhances their game.
Although you can rush out and spend a fortune on top of the line tennis strings and apparel before you’ve had a significant amount of experience playing, it’s not a good idea. You do need decent gear, but you probably won’t want to invest in a lot of your own items until you’ve had a chance to try out different types of racquets, strings, shoes and apparel.
If you want to pick up a few tennis skirts or shirts while you are still a beginner, that’s fine, but there is no need to invest in expensive apparel. Look for lower cost, more generic alternatives until you are confident you know what types of higher-end apparel you want to own and why.
Sporting good shops put top quality tennis gear within easy reach, but a wide selection can also make it easy for people to overspend on gear and apparel they aren’t ready for. Try to bring along an experienced tennis player who can provide you with some guidance when you shop for your own gear for the first time.
